Last night I went to Spin to see some of my favorite dykes perform in a drag king and burlesque show for Bring in Spring. There were performances by Miles Long, Claire de Lune, Miss Tamale, Red Hot Annie, Belle, Brick Brockwell, Hugh Jardon, Seymore Booty, Candyland and others. Emcee Jenna D. was hilarious and the music was great.
The fabulous Holden Johnson was out in full force and watching him grind with Candyland made my night. Oh, Holden. You rock my black cotton socks. Even better was seeing the always sexy Tamale with a beard -something I've never seen before and hope to see again. Although, let's be honest - I'll be happy seeing Tamale anytime and in anything.
Only two things bothered me last night. Bitch to Quit, Howard Brown's smoking cessation group, was getting money from the evening and had a table set up in the back. I think smoking is an informed decision and I choose to smoke a pack a day. Yeah, I know it's going to kill me and I don't need your pamphlet to tell me that. Leave me to my nicotine addiction. The only other thing that bothered me was my camera battery died halfway through the show. So I have pictures I'm excited to share but not of all the performers. Next time I'll remember to charge the battery before I go.
