Cynthia Nixon speaks out to gay women

Cynthia Nixon has appeared in a public service announcement for the Susan G. Homen for the Cure Foundation specifically directed at gay women. She notes, "we tend to visit the gynecologist less often then straight women do."

Her message really hit home for me. My family has a history of breast and ovarian cancer - I even had a cancer scare while I was still a teenager. Luckily, the tumor was benign. But being a lesbian has made going to the gyno a difficult experience for me. Maybe it's because she always gives me a dirty look every time I ask for an STD screening. I haven't even told my doctor I'm a lesbian.

Watch Cynthia's message. She's really inspired me. So visit your doctor regularly, be honest about your lifestyle and get regularly screened for breast cancer.
